Snow's no good...

Well, it's a sad state of affairs when the literacy lessons I do with Owen revolve around his construction of letters with french fries. But this is the case. And, yes, this IS our lifestyle right now. I think it's pretty cool how learning is still happening in the midst of this chaos. Thank goodness for The Laurie Berkner Band -- did I really just say that?

Thank goodness for friends who allow us to invite ourselves over for play dates, too. A few weeks ago, we landed in on one of my friends for over three hours. We brought a dozen Dunkin Donuts in the door with us. I ate one. My boys ate... ten. Well, if you count eating the perimeter of three Boston Creams as eating three donuts -- and if not, then seven point five. In any case, I have now become the very mother I cannot stand. The floor of my mini van is littered with lollipop sticks and empty Capri Sun juice bladders. There is always a mitten gone missing that turns up as soon as we return home. The refrigerator is never quite stocked. I see other children having tantrums at Shop Rite and think "That could be my child -- thank goodness I go grocery shopping during my lunch hour."

Some people have asked me how I do it. My honest answer is that I stink at this. And I mean STINK. And I also consider that there are millions of widowed and single parents out there who don't have spouses jetting in on a regular basis. They do it. They are my inspiration. I am nobody's inspiration. Join me at 5:30pm every week night for pancakes and wine and you'll know what I'm saying. But don't call me after 8. I'll be in bed. Seriously.
