Well, Nicholas went to his 8 month check-up in late June and weighed in at 23 pounds, 4 ounces. Luckily, he is off the charts for his height, so the chubbiness evens out, but even so, this child is the size of a toddler. We never would have seen it coming when he was born so "small." (8 pounds seemed small to us...) What a workout he's giving us! He started lifting up to standing, as is evidenced in the photo. The only glitch is that he doesn't seem quite prepared for the falling down bit yet. So the last few days have yielded some eggs to the head and very teary receptions. He does seem to be getting a bit smarter to it now, which pretty much means that he clings to everything and everyone for fear of falling once he is up. It reminds Mom a lot of her first (and last) ski trip. Once you get to the top of the lift, you just grab on to everything for dear life. Clearly, Nicholas is not a quitter. He is so persistent, which is certainly admirable. He's also FAST. If one of us is leaving, he belly crawls at record speed to get to the open door. Still no REAL crawling yet, just a few creeping crawls with the belly up and off the floor. At this rate, he'll probably go straight to walking. YIKES!!!!!!!
We did a home haircut for Nicholas, as he is SO active that we couldn't imagine bringing him in to a professional place. Last week, he got another ear infection that put him in a foul mood for almost two days, because he didn't feel like eating, obviously, but when you're 23 pounds, you get hungrier than most, and that must have contributed to the crankiness. So one more bottle of amoxycillin has passed its way through our fridge, and hopefully it did the trick.
